Ecomuseum
The eco-museum is an institution that takes care to study, protect and promote the global collective memory of a geographically defined community and its historical and current relationship with the environmental resources of the territory.
The project area is a basalt extraction quarry located on the slopes of Etna, between Camporotondo and Belpasso.
With the help of sociological analysis (sometimes to understand the value that the community attaches to the same area) and cognitive type are the key points that emerged around which articulates the project.
The project area has two large quarries, a currently active when you make exhausting through a method called "Abbattaggio" and another decommissioned in which materializes the production of clinker.
Among these is present planted area, in which the will of reclamation emerges.
A further analysis carried out is that of the layers, represented in the images below, which shows the presence of the flow of 1669, the red sand (terra cotta) and the lava flow from the XVI.
The project, taking into account the points of view of the observer, wants to enhance this area and to recount its history.
Through a walkway that runs along the stratification you can be accessed at first "view point", a high tower that allows you to look down on the entire site adjacent to a host pavilion restaurant area.
Through a tunnel it will be possible to access the extraction quarry which will present four caves with a large hole in the final part, in which the light will have the influence of the user task.
In front of each of these will be present of the great times frames to frame elements that are recounted in the cave.
The material chosen for the realization of the horizontal link is the Corten, as it includes the chromatic properties of red sand, requires little maintenance and exhaustively responds to atmospheric agents
